19 November 2015: SPIE Services lands commissioning work for Petro Rabigh II

The consortium between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical has awarded SPIE Oil & Gas Services the commissioning and start-up services contract for the expansion of the Petro Rabigh refining and petrochemical complex (Petro Rabigh II project).

The contract is a comprehensive undertaking for the commissioning and start-up of the naphtha, aromatics and cumene phenol units, plus the utilities for the refinery and petrochemical complex. This project is planned for a minimum period of one year with hundreds of specialists in various disciplines inherent in the mentioned units.

Petro Rabigh II is the expansion of the original phase I of the Petro Rabigh refining and petrochemical complex located about 150 km north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project consists of the expansion of the existing ethane cracker, the construction of an aromatic complex and an ethylene plant. It will produce an additional 30 million cubic feet a day of ethane, three million tons of naphtha and 300,000 metric tonnes of ethylene per annum, which will be used as raw materials to produce a variety of petrochemical products.
